Lights On HQ helps people choose the right portable power station or home backup battery, using sourced spec data, clear math and plain English.
What we do
When the power goes out, most people need answers to three questions:
- What size do I need?
- Which model fits my home and budget?
- Will it actually run my fridge, router or CPAP?
Manufacturer marketing makes those answers harder than they should be. “Boost” watts, cycle ratings measured to different end points and constantly changing sale prices all get in the way.
Lights On HQ pulls the numbers from each manufacturer’s own spec pages and user manuals. We put them side by side in a consistent format and show our math, so you can check it yourself.
What you’ll find here:
- A spec database of current models, with a source link and check date for every figure
- Model and brand comparisons
- Sizing guides and calculators
- Safety and home-integration explainers (written to send you to a licensed electrician, not around one)
What we don’t do (and won’t pretend to)
- We don’t hands-on test these products. We haven’t run them in our homes, and we won’t write “we tested” or invent first-hand impressions. Every guide is labeled research-based.
- We don’t publish fake reviews or testimonials. We follow the FTC’s rules on endorsements and consumer reviews.
- We don’t give electrical wiring instructions. Connecting a power station to home circuits requires a licensed electrician and an approved transfer switch or inlet.
- We don’t give medical advice. For CPAP and other medical equipment, confirm with your provider and the device manufacturer.
If we ever cite hands-on test results, they’ll be from a named, linked third party, or clearly marked as our own, with photos and the test conditions.
Who’s behind the site
Lights On HQ is run by Josh, an independent publisher. It isn’t owned by or affiliated with any power station brand.
How articles are produced: articles are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools. Every spec is checked against the manufacturer’s source, and a person reviews each page before it’s published. We name our sources so you don’t have to take our word for anything. Details are in our methodology.
How we make money
Lights On HQ is reader-supported. Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions never decide what we include or how we rank it: rankings follow the published specs and the criteria in our methodology. If we join the Amazon Associates program, we’ll say so with Amazon’s required statement. Full affiliate disclosure
